Tripura Targets Full Healthcare Digitalisation by October 31

Tripura has announced plans to fully digitalise its healthcare services by October 31, with West Tripura designated as the State Model District to accelerate implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

Tripura has already generated more than 32 lakh ABHA IDs, providing the foundation for statewide digital health integration.

Kiran Gitte, Health Secretary, Tripura, acknowledged the tight timeline while expressing confidence in the state’s ability to deliver:

“Time is now our biggest challenge. However, our goal is clear, and we are confident that we will be able to accomplish this task.”

The initiative aims to create a connected, paperless healthcare ecosystem that enables seamless access to patient records and improves care delivery across the state.

NHA Chief Reviews Digital Infrastructure at Agartala Civil Hospital

National Health Authority (NHA) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal reviewed the digital infrastructure at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital, where he observed paperless workflows across outpatient and inpatient departments — including the use of “Computer on Wheels” for bedside documentation.

He noted that Tripura has the potential to emerge as a “Model Digital Health State“ if the initiative is implemented at scale, and said he was impressed by the level of digital integration already achieved.

ABDM’s Growing Role as National Digital Infrastructure

Dr. Barnwal said ABDM has evolved into a major Digital Public Infrastructure for healthcare, comparable to platforms such as Aadhaar, DigiLocker, e-Sign, and UPI. He added that more than 97 crore citizens across India have already been issued ABHA IDs.

For successful implementation, he highlighted four key requirements:

• Citizens must have ABHA IDs
• Healthcare facilities must be listed in the Health Facility Registry
• Healthcare professionals must be registered in the Healthcare Professionals Registry
• Institutions must adopt ABDM-enabled software

State Councils Already Operating Digitally

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte said Tripura has already digitised services across the Medical, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health Councils, enabling online applications, digital payments, and certificate issuance.

“If these councils and supply chain management for drug procurement can function digitally despite limited manpower, implementing digital systems across all other healthcare sectors is entirely achievable,” Gitte said.

Role of AB-PMJAY and CMJAY in Digital Healthcare Ecosystem

The programme also highlighted the continued role of AB-PMJAY and CMJAY in supporting the state’s digital healthcare ecosystem through cashless treatment and financial protection for beneficiaries.
