Heart health is often something people think about only when a problem arises. But in reality, taking care of the heart is a daily process. The food we eat, how active we are, our stress levels and whether we keep a check on conditions such as blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol can all have an impact on cardiovascular health.

One of the biggest challenges with heart disease is that it may not always come with clear warning signs. Some people may not realise they are at risk until a serious problem occurs. This is why regular health check-ups and an understanding of individual risk factors are important.

Dr. Amit Kumar, Associate Director & Head (Unit I) – Interventional Cardiology, Sarvodaya Hospital, Faridabad, says, “Heart disease does not always announce itself with dramatic symptoms. Paying attention to risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, smoking and sedentary habits is essential. Early detection and timely medical care can make a meaningful difference to long-term heart health.”

For many people, prevention does not require dramatic changes. Small, consistent steps can make a difference. Staying physically active, eating a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and keeping conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure under control are important parts of maintaining heart health. Regular check-ups can also help identify potential concerns before they become more serious.

Dr. Arvind Dambalkar, Senior Consultant & Head (Unit II) – Interventional Cardiology, Sarvodaya Hospital, Faridabad, highlights the importance of making heart-healthy habits part of everyday life.

“Heart health is built through the choices we make every day. Regular check-ups, an active lifestyle, a balanced diet and timely attention to warning signs can go a long way in preventing serious heart problems.”

It is also important not to ignore unusual symptoms. Chest discomfort, breathlessness, sudden weakness, dizziness, unusual sweating or unexplained fatigue can sometimes indicate a heart-related problem and should be evaluated by a medical professional, particularly when symptoms are sudden or persistent.

Ultimately, looking after the heart is not about making occasional changes; it is about building healthier habits and staying aware of one’s health over time. Paying attention to risk factors, getting appropriate medical advice and making healthier choices can help people take better care of their hearts at every stage of life.
