New Delhi: India’s digital healthcare network is witnessing a major milestone as eSanjeevani online consultations continue to expand access to medical advice across the country. Women account for more than 57 per cent of consultations conducted through the government’s national telemedicine platform, highlighting the growing role of digital healthcare in improving access to medical services for women and other underserved populations.
According to data released by the Union Health Ministry, women represented 57.14 per cent of consultations conducted through eSanjeevani. The platform has also seen significant participation from older citizens, with around 40.15 per cent of consultations involving people aged 46 years and above.
eSanjeevani Crosses 50 Crore Teleconsultation Milestone
The latest figures come as eSanjeevani online consultations crossed the 50 crore mark, making it one of India’s most significant government-backed digital healthcare initiatives. The platform crossed the milestone on September 15, 2026, recording a cumulative 50,00,92,730 teleconsultations across all states and Union Territories.
The achievement reflects the increasing adoption of telemedicine in India, particularly among people who may face difficulties travelling to hospitals, clinics or specialist centres. Through online consultations, patients can connect with healthcare professionals remotely, reducing the impact of distance and limited healthcare infrastructure.
The growth of eSanjeevani also demonstrates how technology is becoming an important part of India’s healthcare delivery system. The platform complements traditional healthcare facilities by providing an additional channel through which patients can seek medical guidance.
Women Emerging as Major Users of Digital Healthcare
The fact that women account for over 57 per cent of eSanjeevani online consultations is particularly significant. It indicates that telemedicine is becoming an increasingly accessible option for women seeking healthcare services without having to travel long distances.
Digital consultations can be especially useful for patients who face mobility, geographical or time-related challenges. Women living in rural and remote areas can use telemedicine services to connect with healthcare providers without necessarily visiting a major healthcare centre.
The strong participation of women also points towards the broader potential of digital platforms in making healthcare more convenient and accessible across different sections of society.
Telemedicine Helping Bridge India’s Healthcare Gap
One of the biggest advantages of eSanjeevani is its ability to connect patients with medical professionals regardless of geographical location. This is particularly important for rural, remote and underserved communities where access to specialised healthcare may remain limited.
The government has been expanding the digital health ecosystem to complement physical healthcare infrastructure. eSanjeevani plays an important role in this effort by enabling remote consultations through a technology-driven platform.
The service currently supports more than 1.42 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir spokes, 19,473 medical hubs and 901 online OPDs, along with more than 2.41 lakh registered healthcare providers, according to the government data cited in the report.
eSanjeevani Available in 15 Languages
Accessibility is another important factor behind the growing reach of the platform. eSanjeevani is available in 15 languages, including English and 14 Indian languages. This multilingual approach helps make digital healthcare services easier to access for people from different linguistic backgrounds.
The platform currently facilitates approximately 2.5 to 3 lakh consultations every day. Its highest single-day utilisation has reached 6,30,315 consultations, reflecting the growing acceptance of telemedicine services among Indian citizens.
Digital Healthcare Set to Play a Bigger Role
The rapid expansion of eSanjeevani online consultations highlights the changing nature of healthcare delivery in India. While telemedicine cannot replace every form of physical medical care, it can provide an important first point of contact for patients and help improve access to healthcare professionals.
With women accounting for more than 57 per cent of consultations and millions of citizens using the service every month, eSanjeevani is emerging as an important component of India’s digital health infrastructure.
