In a major initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding diagnostic capabilities across the state, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced plans to invest approximately ₹3,000 crore in modern healthcare infrastructure and medical equipment procurement. The investment is expected to significantly enhance healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and underserved regions.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation Limited (HPMSCL) chaired by Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, the state’s Minister for Health and Family Welfare. The proposed investment will focus on upgrading healthcare facilities, expanding diagnostic services, and ensuring the availability of modern medical equipment across government healthcare institutions.

A key component of the initiative involves strengthening Adarsh Swasthya Clinics, which are expected to receive advanced diagnostic equipment and enhanced healthcare capabilities. The upgrades are intended to improve early disease detection, facilitate timely treatment, and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized diagnostic services.

According to government reports, Himachal Pradesh has already invested approximately ₹1,110 crore in healthcare infrastructure over the past two years, reflecting the state’s continued focus on improving healthcare access and service quality. The latest ₹3,000-crore proposal represents one of the largest healthcare infrastructure investments undertaken by the state in recent years.

Healthcare experts note that strengthening diagnostic capacity is critical for improving patient outcomes. Early diagnosis plays a vital role in managing chronic diseases, infectious illnesses, cancer, cardiovascular conditions, and other health concerns. Enhanced access to diagnostic services can also reduce healthcare disparities between urban and rural populations.

The planned procurement is expected to include modern imaging systems, laboratory equipment, critical care technologies, and other advanced medical devices aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the state’s network of hospitals and health centres.
