Mahendragarh has become Haryana’s first Digital Health Model District under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), marking a significant milestone in the state’s digital healthcare transformation. The achievement reflects the successful integration of digital health services across public healthcare facilities, enabling citizens to access seamless, secure and interoperable healthcare through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ecosystem.
The initiative is expected to serve as a blueprint for scaling digital healthcare across other districts in Haryana.
Under the ABDM framework, Mahendragarh has achieved comprehensive onboarding of government health facilities, healthcare professionals and digital health services. Citizens are being encouraged to create ABHA IDs, allowing them to securely store and share electronic health records across hospitals and healthcare providers. The district has also expanded the adoption of digital prescriptions, electronic medical records and online patient registration, reducing paperwork while improving continuity of care and patient convenience.
The Digital Health Model District initiative aims to create an integrated healthcare ecosystem by connecting hospitals, primary health centres, laboratories, pharmacies and healthcare professionals through a common digital platform. By digitising patient records and enabling real time information exchange, the initiative is expected to improve clinical decision-making, reduce duplication of diagnostic tests and enhance efficiency in healthcare delivery. Health officials believe the model will strengthen primary healthcare services while making quality care more accessible, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Launched by the National Health Authority (NHA) in 2021, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is building one of the world’s largest digital health ecosystems. The mission has already generated more than 100 crore ABHA accounts, linked hundreds of millions of digital health records and onboarded lakhs of healthcare professionals and health facilities nationwide. ABDM aims to create a secure, interoperable digital infrastructure that enables citizens to access healthcare services seamlessly across public and private hospitals while ensuring data privacy and patient consent.
Healthcare experts believe Mahendragarh’s designation as Haryana’s first Digital Health Model District demonstrates the growing impact of digital health technologies in strengthening healthcare delivery. By integrating ABHA based health records, digital consultations and interoperable healthcare platforms, the district is expected to improve patient outcomes, enhance operational efficiency and accelerate Haryana’s transition towards a connected, technology-driven healthcare system aligned with India’s vision of universal digital health.
