Manipal Hospital Yeshwanthpur, today announced the appointment of Dr. Ajay Shridhara Shetty, who is a renowned Urologist, Andrologist, and Specialist in Renal Transplantation. He has a wider experience in handling complex laparoscopic surgeries to treat urological disorders. He has successfully treated many cases of Urological cancers of the Prostate, Bladder, and Kidney, and has also specialized in the treatment of male infertility and impotence.
Before joining Manipal Hospital, he worked as a Senior Consultant and was instrumental in setting up the department of renal sciences in a renowned Hospital, Bangalore. In addition to setting up comprehensive urology services mentioned above, he started the renal transplant program at a well-known hospital in 2017 with excellent results and long-term renal allograft outcomes. He was also responsible for creating vascular access (AV fistulas and grafts) for patients with end-stage renal disease needing hemodialysis.
Dr. Ajay Shetty earned his undergraduate degree in JSS Medical College Mysore, completing his MBBS in 1999. He had the benefit of comprehensive general surgical training at Bangalore Baptist Hospital, Bangalore, which was adjudged as the best DNB training hospital in the country. He was awarded the Dr. B. Ramamurthy DNB Gold medal for General Surgery in 2004 at the national level. He then went on to complete his DNB-Urology training at Muljibhai Patel Centre for Research in Nephron-Urology, in Nadiad Gujarat, a Centre of Excellence of international repute.
He eagerly looks forward to providing advanced robotic surgery expertise for urological conditions and also to providing academic guidance to DNB students. He also continuously strives to raise awareness in the field of healthcare communication keeping in mind the interests of the most important stakeholder in the healthcare industry
In appreciation of his scholastic achievements and passion for academics and administrative acumen, the management of the Bangalore Baptist Hospital made him the DNB Program Coordinator and Assistant Chief of Medical Staff. He was adjudged as the best DNB training hospital among the accredited teaching hospitals in India by The National Board of Examinations (NBE), Government of India New Delhi. He mentored many undergraduate medical students for three years as an Associate Professor at the International Medical School, Malaysian Science University.
He has publications to his credit in national and international journals. He co-authored and published the first book on “healthcare communication” in the Indian context which has sold more than 10000 copies and is endorsed by NBE. Under this initiative, he was an invited author for a chapter on healthcare communication in the handbook of healthcare, quality, and patient safety published by the Association of Healthcare Providers in India (AHPI). As a recognized Master Trainer in healthcare communication, he has successfully conducted several workshops for healthcare professionals at the national level under the auspices of the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO).
