To appeal to masses to gift a life by donating organs, Medicover Hospitals in association with Dost Mumbai (NGO) has taken a vital step to create awareness regarding organ donation. An organ donation Awareness skit performed by DOST (NGO) volunteers in Medicover hospital premises on 12th June as a part of Avayadan and Arogyaseva Dindi to educate the paramedical staff and patients from the hospital.

India is struggling with the shortage of organ donation due to the myth, taboo, social stigma, and lack of awareness about this pivotal issue. Lakhs of people succumb to death owing to unavailability of the organs. There are many people on the waiting list who are in dire need of organs. Every donor can save 8 lives. But, the gap between the demand for organs and the availability of organ donation is huge. In view of it, Medicover Hospitals has come up with an awareness activity within the hospital premises.

Dr Viram Raut (Director – Liver Transplantation & HPB Surgery) & Dr Amit Langote (Head of Department – Nephrology & Kidney Transplant) said, “Organ transplantation can improve the quality of life of a large number of people. Organs that can be donated from one donor include the heart, liver, kidneys, pancreas, lungs, Eyes, Skin and intestines. It is a noble act and the most impactful thing that can save lives. It is the right time to change this perception and increase awareness about organ donation. It is the need of the hour to encourage the masses to donate organs. With an aim to highlight organ donation, the hospital along with Dost Mumbai (NGO) briefed the paramedical staff and the patients in the hospital premises. Around 100 people were present. An Ayayavdan and Arogyseva Dindi programme is conducted between 10th June to 26th June 2023. During this programme, the organization will travel with the warkaris of Shri Sant Dyaneshwar Maharaj and Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Sohala from Dehu to Pandharpur to spread awareness about organ donation in masses. It is a great medium to reach a maximum number of people. Moreover, the hospital is determined to undertake more such drives, campaigns, and initiatives for organ donation.

We work tirelessly to bring out a change in society. We want to ensure that people donate organs and give a fresh lease of life to those who are in need of organs.  Apart from this, our organization also conducts medical camps, Charan seva camps, and medicine distribution for warkaris. More than 10000 people get the benefit of these medical camps and lakhs of people become aware of organ donation,” said Prof Dr Kailash Jawade (Founder) & Dr Govind Jawade (Secretary) from Dost Mumbai (NGO).
