Reliance Foundation has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Seven Hills Hospital into one of India’s largest integrated healthcare institutions, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to advanced medical services. The proposed redevelopment will create a 1,500-bed healthcare facility, positioning it among the largest hospitals in Mumbai and one of the most comprehensive healthcare ecosystems in the country.
Announcing the initiative, Reliance Foundation Founder and Chairperson Nita Ambani said the project aims to create a world-class healthcare hub that seamlessly integrates patient care, medical education, clinical research and innovation under a single platform. The redevelopment is expected to significantly enhance the city’s healthcare capacity while supporting India’s growing demand for advanced tertiary and quaternary care services.
The upgraded facility will focus on key areas including cancer care, emergency and trauma services, advanced diagnostics, critical care, organ transplantation, clinical research and specialized treatment programmes. By bringing together healthcare delivery, research and academic excellence, the institution aims to create a future ready healthcare model capable of addressing both current and emerging healthcare challenges.
Mumbai, one of India’s largest healthcare markets, continues to witness rising demand for specialized medical services driven by population growth, increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and greater healthcare awareness. Industry estimates indicate that India’s healthcare sector is expected to surpass USD 600 billion by 2030, supported by increasing investments in hospital infrastructure, digital health and medical innovation.
The transformation of Seven Hills Hospital aligns with Reliance Foundation’s broader healthcare vision, which includes improving access to quality healthcare, supporting medical research and promoting technology driven healthcare solutions. Healthcare experts believe large integrated institutions play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes by enabling multidisciplinary care, advanced treatment capabilities and stronger clinical research ecosystems.
The proposed facility is also expected to contribute to healthcare workforce development through medical education and training programmes. By combining teaching, research and clinical services, the hospital aims to support the development of future healthcare professionals while fostering innovation in patient care.
Experts note that India continues to face a shortage of hospital beds relative to its population, making investments in large scale healthcare infrastructure increasingly important. The addition of a 1,500-bed integrated facility is expected to strengthen healthcare access not only for Mumbai residents but also for patients travelling from across Maharashtra and other parts of the country.
Once completed, the transformed Seven Hills Hospital is expected to emerge as a major centre for advanced healthcare, research and medical education, further strengthening Mumbai’s position as one of India’s leading healthcare destinations.
