The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the construction of a 1,010-bed multi speciality hospital along with a new OPD block and teaching facilities at the new campus of the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow.
The state government has sanctioned approximately ₹855 crore for the large scale healthcare infrastructure project, aimed at strengthening tertiary healthcare services, medical education, and patient care capacity in Uttar Pradesh.
Officials stated that the expansion project will include advanced speciality departments, upgraded diagnostic facilities, modern operation theatres, academic infrastructure, and a high capacity outpatient department to address the growing healthcare demand in Lucknow and surrounding regions.
The new hospital is expected to significantly improve access to affordable super speciality treatment while reducing patient burden on existing government healthcare facilities in the state capital.
Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state with over 24 crore residents, has been rapidly expanding its public healthcare infrastructure in recent years through investments in medical colleges, AIIMS linked institutions, trauma centres, and critical care facilities.
Healthcare experts believe the project will strengthen both patient care and medical training capacity, particularly as India continues to face increasing demand for tertiary healthcare services and specialist doctors.
The initiative forms part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader strategy to modernize healthcare infrastructure and improve accessibility to advanced medical treatment across the state.
