Just like a cold and cough, even a sore throat is a common occurrence during chilly days. This article tells you about some vital tips to manage a sore throat during winter and stay healthy.

Winter is often pleasant but can also lead to a variety of health issues. A sore throat is a common issue when the temperature outside drops suddenly. Thus, there can be throat pain, scratchiness, or irritation of the throat that often worsens when one swallows. Did you know? One of the common reasons behind sore throat (pharyngitis) is a viral infection that is a cold or the flu. A large number of people tend to complain of sore throats during winter. Moreover, one also needs to be cautious as sore throat is also one of the symptoms of Covid-19. It is imperative for each and everyone to avoid neglecting this problem and seek timely intervention.

The symptoms: A sore throat can be bothersome as it can interfere with your daily routine. The signs and symptoms of it are a scratchy sensation in the throat, pain during swallowing, redness, and swelling of the tonsils, a scratchy throat, and a hoarse voice. It is essential to consult the doctor once you notice these red flags. If required get your RT-PCR done to rule out any chances of Covid-19 infection.

The treatment: To manage sore throat, one may be required to take antibiotics prescribed by the treating doctor. It is better to avoid taking any over-the-counter medication without the knowledge of an expert. Apart from medication, you need to follow certain guidelines given by the doctor. Try to use a good humidifier at home to breathe freely, do salt water gargle to manage the sore throat, and sip hot beverages such as tea, homemade soups, and other warm liquids. Do not share your personal items with others, and use a hand sanitizer to keep germs away.  Try to disinfect phones, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, and computer keyboards. Do not come in contact with sick people and refrain from touching the face and mouth. It is better to take utmost care of yourself during winter to keep a sore throat at bay.
